Staff RF Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

Impulse is looking for a Staff RF Embedded Software Engineer to own the design, testing and delivery of flight RF software systems for space missions, from low Earth orbit to Mars. The role works with a cross-disciplinary team to define and implement RF software communications requirements on a mission-by-mission basis.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement RF software communications requirements and RF software architectures, and bring up RF systems
• Develop algorithms for RF digital signal processing and calibration
• Design and optimize RF system control algorithms to improve performance and reliability
• Work with ground software teams to develop and test satellite-to-ground data pipelines

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience developing software for wireless systems in critical applications
• 8+ years writing embedded C/C++ code
• Ability to work in the lab with RF equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators and software-defined radios
• Proficiency testing and troubleshooting complex mixed-signal boards and RF components such as PAs, PLLs, LNAs and mixers
• Strong understanding of RF signal modulation and demodulation blocks

Preferred skills and experience

• Xilinx UltraScale+ board bring-up and development
• Baseband software for PSK, GFSK or APSK systems
• RF protocols such as DVB-S2 and CCSDS
• Software or firmware for a space environment (link budgets, ground station integration)
• GNU Radio flowgraph development and troubleshooting
• Startup or agile development experience

• Pay of $170,000 - $210,000 per year, depending on role, level, location and market data
