Software Release Manager
impulsespace · Redondo Beach
Job description
About the role
Impulse Space is looking for a Software Release Manager to own the software release process for its spacecraft software. The role ensures that the right software reaches the right systems at the right time, with the right functionality, quality, testing and customer documentation. It is process and schedule focused but technically grounded: you will not write production code, but you must understand build systems, CI/CD pipelines and test infrastructure well enough to diagnose issues, drive improvements and hold engineering teams accountable to release standards.
Key responsibilities
- Define and manage release plans aligned with program integration milestones.
- Work with software developers and test teams to track progress toward release and ensure adequate test coverage and positive test results.
- Manage release artifacts such as build packages, release notes, known issues and supporting documentation for internal and customer use.
- Follow, enforce and improve the software development process documentation.
- Define comprehensive test plans, including functional, integration, system and user acceptance tests.
- Monitor, configure and manage static analysis, code coverage and other quality tools.
- Define metrics and dashboards for monitoring software quality and the release process.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or another technical discipline.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience in release management, release engineering or a related technical program management role.
- Experience owning software release processes for products with multiple hardware platforms and software variants.
- Experience writing test plans and tracking their results.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, build automation and release versioning.
- Proficiency in Python, C or C++.
- Preferred: scripting for automation, configuration management and software traceability, SITL and HITL test environments, C++ static analysis and build tools, coordinating releases across engineering, integration, test, operations and customer teams, and the risk management framework (RMF).
What we offer
- Pay of $145,000 - $210,000 per year, depending on role, level, location and skills.
- Possible long-term incentives in the form of stock options for full-time hires.
- Medical, vision and dental coverage and access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
