Staff Physician – Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine (MTI)

About the role

The University of Miami seeks a dedicated Staff Physician to join the Cardiothoracic and Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) transplant teams. The role involves direct inpatient care of adult patients at Jackson Memorial Hospital and collaboration with multidisciplinary trainees.

Key responsibilities

• Provide nocturnal and daytime ICU coverage (approximately 15 days per month, up to 50% night shifts).
• Deliver direct care for pre‑ and post‑cardiothoracic transplant patients, cardiac and thoracic surgery cases, and ECMO/MCS patients.
• Attend transplant, divisional conferences and multidisciplinary rounds.
• Collaborate with cardiology, pulmonology, surgery, and other consulting teams.
• Precept residents, fellows and advanced practice providers in the inpatient setting.
• Participate in educational activities for APPs, residents, and fellows.

Required profile

• MD or DO degree from an ABIM‑accredited program.
• Board certification in Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine (ABIM) or equivalent (ABA, ABS/AOBS).
• Valid, unrestricted Florida medical license (or eligibility).
• Minimum three years of relevant clinical experience.
• Current CME compliance and ability to maintain state licensing requirements.
• Strong interpersonal skills for communication with staff, patients, and families.
• Specialized training/certification in ECMO, MCS, or transplant care is highly desired.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ECMO and Mechanical Circulatory Support technologies.
• Expertise in critical care echocardiography.
• Experience managing cardiothoracic transplant and surgical ICU patients.
