Staff Machine Learning Research Scientist

About the role

Rad AI is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Research Scientist to lead applied research in NLP and clinical AI. You will work on large language models, retrieval, multimodal modeling, and ensure rigorous evaluation and reliability while translating research into production‑scale systems.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end applied research: define problems, design experiments, ship models to production, and monitor real‑world impact.
• Set technical direction across LLMs, retrieval, and multimodal modeling; conduct ablations and error analysis that influence product decisions.
• Build evaluation frameworks that link offline metrics to online outcomes, define thresholds, monitoring, and rollback procedures.
• Collaborate with engineers, product leaders, and clinicians to align data, success criteria, and timelines.
• Mentor peers, codify standards for reliability, safety, and documentation, and improve the ML platform for reproducibility.

Required profile

• MS or PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computational Linguistics, Biomedical Informatics, or related field.
• 7+ years of applied ML research experience (or PhD + 5 years) with demonstrated staff‑level impact.
• Deep expertise in at least one area such as LLMs/NLP, computer vision, speech, retrieval, or multimodal modeling.
• Proven ability to take models from research to production with strong experimental rigor.
