Staff Engineer – Cybersecurity Platform

About the role

Shield AI is seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of its Cybersecurity Platform. The role blends deep network engineering expertise with hands‑on cybersecurity implementation to support classified defense systems.

Key responsibilities

• Translate cybersecurity requirements into secure system architecture and network topologies.
• Enforce network security standards, including segmentation, firewalls, VPNs, and zero‑trust models.
• Develop documentation for installations and configurations needed for Authorizations to Operate (ATOs).
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement STIGs, threat detection, mitigation, and incident response strategies.
• Provide technical guidance on the X‑BAT GCS cybersecurity stack to cross‑functional teams.
• Support troubleshooting of complex network and infrastructure issues and work with Network Engineering on VoIP capabilities.

Required profile

• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of platform, cybersecurity, or network engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and cybersecurity frameworks (Zero Trust, NIST SP 800‑53, ISO 27001).

Required skills

• Enterprise networking hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers).
• Cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid environments.
• Voice‑over‑IP implementation.
• Security certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, CISSP (preferred).
• DevSecOps tools: Kubernetes (OPA/Gatekeeper), Terraform, Ansible.
• Software‑defined networking, network automation, and compliance knowledge (FedRAMP, DoD).
