Staff Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a transport organization in New Orleans. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month‑end activities, and ensuring timely reporting across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Review and process incoming invoices with accurate coding and documentation.
• Prepare items for weekly disbursements and support timely check runs.
• Gather and verify employee expense submissions, ensuring correct coding.
• Maintain organized financial records and update accounting documentation.
• Prepare monthly journal entries and supporting schedules.
• Assist with month‑end close and financial statement preparation.
• Reconcile general ledger and balance‑sheet accounts, research variances and resolve discrepancies.
• Support annual audit readiness by compiling materials and responding to auditor inquiries.
• Provide assistance for tax filings (federal, state, local) as needed.
• Perform additional accounting assignments to meet operational deadlines.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent corporate accounting experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience in a business environment (or 1 year public accounting audit experience).
• Hands‑on experience with month‑end close activities and account reconciliations.
• Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple deadlines.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for cross‑team collaboration.
