Sr. Staff Systems Engineer

About the role

The Propulsion & Dynamics Systems Engineering team is seeking a senior staff systems engineer to own end‑to‑end definition of vehicle motion‑control features such as traction control, all‑wheel drive and torque vectoring across multiple programs.

Key responsibilities

• Define logical architecture, boundary diagrams, state machines and theory of operation for each feature.
• Develop and release traceable requirements, allocate functions across zonal, brake and secondary ECUs, and produce trade‑study documentation.
• Specify and review CAN FD, FlexRay, LIN and Ethernet signals, maintain ARXML/DBC definitions, and manage interface change requests.
• Lead DFMEA, functional safety work products compliant with ISO 26262, and support ASIL‑relevant analysis.
• Drive DVP&R across SIL, HIL, component and vehicle levels, author automated HIL tests in Python, and triage regression failures.
• Collaborate with VW Group brand engineering, controls, firmware, ADAS, HMI and safety teams, and represent the domain in program syncs and bug scrubs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, Mechatronics or Controls Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 8+ years of systems engineering experience on vehicle dynamics or chassis controls, with full feature lifecycle ownership.
• Hands‑on experience with traction control, AWD and torque‑vectoring strategies.
• Proven use of formal requirements tools (Jama, Flow, DOORS) and automotive network definitions.
• Strong written communication and ability to work across time zones.

• Python scripting for HIL test automation.
• CAN, CAN FD, FlexRay, LIN, automotive Ethernet, ARXML, DBC signal definition.
• Requirements management tools (Jama, Flow, DOORS).
• ISO 26262 functional safety, DFMEA, STPA.
• AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor).
