evolv-technology · Waltham
Job description
About the role
Evolv is looking for a Senior Manager of AI/Machine Learning and Sensors for its Expedite X-ray screening product. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers building real-time computer vision and deep learning solutions for X-ray imaging on constrained hardware. The role combines deep technical expertise with people leadership, stakeholder management and project management, and sits in the Algorithm department, reporting to the VP of ML and Sensors.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the Expedite ML roadmap end-to-end: set technical direction, run execution, develop the team and represent the program to stakeholders and executives.
- In the first 30 days, explore the product architecture and data pipeline, meet each team member, build a stakeholder map and review the roadmap and delivery processes.
- Within three months, establish a predictable execution cadence, run stakeholder meetings, turn product requirements into derived requirements, give hands-on technical guidance on X-ray computer vision and deep learning, and assess team structure and skills.
- By the end of year one, deliver major milestones on schedule with production models deployed at the edge, build an engaged team with clear career paths, and communicate with senior leadership on strategy.
- Manage, mentor and recruit ML scientists and engineers, and coordinate cross-functional dependencies with product, hardware, software engineering and SQA.
- Set technical direction for X-ray computer vision and ML, including detection architectures, sensor fusion and model training, validation and deployment on edge systems.
Required profile
- PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Physics or related field with 5+ years in computer vision/deep learning, or MS with 10+ years.
- 3+ years of direct people management experience leading scientists and/or engineers.
- Proven experience delivering scalable production models, ideally on resource-constrained edge hardware.
- Experience with X-ray imaging or similar penetrating-sensor data strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated agile project management and strong written and verbal communication.
Required skills
- TensorFlow, PyTorch and other ML frameworks; Python and C++.
- Sensor fusion algorithms and multi-sensor systems.
- Hardware acceleration (GPU, NPU, TPU).
What we offer
- Base salary of USD 187,000 to 243,000.
- Target bonus, equity and a comprehensive benefits package.
- Hybrid workplace with a minimum of 60% on-site work (3 days a week) in Waltham, Massachusetts.
