SQL Server Database Administrator (Azure)

About the role

Marsh McLennan Agency is seeking a skilled SQL Server Database Administrator with strong Microsoft Azure experience. You will be responsible for building, operating, securing, and continuously improving SQL Server platforms that support business‑critical applications.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server across production and non‑production environments.
• Provision, configure, and manage SQL Server on Azure IaaS VMs, applying best‑practice storage, connectivity, and performance settings.
• Implement and operate High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions such as Always On Availability Groups and Windows Server Failover Clustering.
• Own backup, restore, and recovery strategies, ensuring RTO/RPO objectives are met.
• Perform performance monitoring and tuning, including index maintenance, query optimization, and capacity planning.
• Apply database security controls: least‑privilege access, role‑based permissions, encryption (TDE), auditing, and credential management.
• Coordinate patching, upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime.
• Support application releases by managing database changes and assisting with troubleshooting.
• Build and maintain automation for operational tasks using PowerShell, T‑SQL, and Azure native runbooks.
• Create and keep operational documentation such as runbooks, SOPs, HA/DR procedures, and architecture diagrams.

Required profile

• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server in both on‑premise and Azure environments.
• Proven expertise in Azure IaaS VM deployment and management.
• Hands‑on experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery architectures.
• Solid background in backup/recovery, performance tuning, and security implementation.
