SQL Developer & Data Analyst (Remote)

About the role

A 100% remote SQL Developer / Data Analyst position supporting a large federal government healthcare modernization project, working with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The role covers SQL development, data analysis, reporting and data quality monitoring for electronic health record (EHR) modernization, using SQL Server, Power BI and related tools. The candidate must live in the continental US.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and optimize SQL queries, scripts and transformation logic in SQL Server for data extraction, validation, reconciliation and analysis.
• Analyze healthcare data from multiple systems, and build reports, dashboards and visualizations with Power BI, Tableau, Excel and similar tools.
• Collaborate with developers, data engineers and stakeholders on data flows, source-to-target mappings and data models for federal healthcare data warehouses.
• Maintain data quality monitoring, validation routines and reconciliation reports, and investigate data discrepancies through exploratory analysis and root cause work.
• Document findings, including data dictionaries, mapping specifications, runbooks and validation protocols.
• Evaluate AI-assisted tools for SQL optimization and data quality checks, validate their outputs and protect data security and quality.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or another engineering/technical discipline, or 8 years of additional relevant experience; minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience with healthcare or clinical datasets and standards such as HL7, FHIR or VistA.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills, able to explain technical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
• U.S. citizenship, successful background check, and ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL and data extraction in Microsoft SQL Server, with query optimization.
• Data modeling, indexing, normalization and performance tuning.
• Power BI, Tableau or Excel for reporting and visualization.
• Preferred: VA systems (VX130, Oracle Health Millennium, CDW), InterSystems IRIS, Caché, Agile tools (JIRA, Azure DevOps), and AI-assisted tools such as GitHub Copilot.
