Solutions Architect - Payments

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system for global commerce, is hiring a Solutions Architect for its Merchant Services team. You will own the technical pre-sales of complex client engagements involving enterprise partners, shopping carts and payment gateways, turning business requirements into solution designs and plans. The role can be based in San Francisco or New York (3 days in office), with implementation coverage across the US.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers and internal teams on high-value implementations and expansions, shaping integration approaches, system configuration and solution design.
• Partner with implementation and account management teams to turn customer requirements into scalable architectures.
• Work with sales teams on technical discovery to recommend a best-fit integration blueprint, including when and how to use APIs and third-party connectors.
• Work hands-on with customers to troubleshoot integration issues and guide configuration decisions, without writing code directly.
• Create and maintain internal documentation, playbooks and lightweight tooling for integration-heavy use cases at scale.
• Channel customer pain points and integration feedback to Product and Engineering, influencing the roadmap and feature prioritisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a related field (Business, Finance, Engineering, Information Systems) or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of experience in technical pre-sales, managing complex, multi-stakeholder technology or financial services implementations.
• 10+ years of client-facing delivery or professional services experience in a fast-paced environment (SaaS, fintech, consulting, systems integration, enterprise implementation).
• Proven track record delivering cross-functional projects with C-level executives, technical teams and operations.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including leading steering meetings and influencing decisions without direct authority.

Preferred: hands-on API-based payments integration experience, experience managing strategic or enterprise engagements within an account team, and comfort in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
