Software Engineer II – Sensor Fusion & Autonomy

About the role

REGENT is building the Seaglider, a wing‑in‑ground‑effect craft for fast, affordable coastal transportation. As a Software Engineer II you will develop the perception and autonomy software that enables the vehicle to understand its environment and operate safely.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and integrate a perception system for external environment, vehicle state, and operator intent.
• Lead rapid prototyping, sensor evaluations, and hands‑on integration of complex perception systems into operational seagliders.
• Integrate, calibrate, and optimize multi‑modal sensor suites (sonar, radar, EO/IR, IMUs, environmental sensors) for robust situational awareness.
• Develop and maintain software build environments, transitioning prototypes to certified production avionics.
• Collect and analyze data from vehicle and off‑vehicle tests to iteratively improve software performance.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in aviation, aerospace, robotics, or automotive software development.
• Proven ability to debug complex distributed software systems deployed on vehicles.
• Experience with sensor selection, evaluation, integration, and multi‑modal sensor fusion.

Required skills

• Python programming
• C / C++ programming
• SLAM algorithms and frameworks
• State estimation techniques
• Publish‑subscribe messaging architectures
• Computer vision, mapping, and semantic labeling
• Multi‑modal sensor integration and optimization
