Software Engineer, Agent Auth Experience

About the role

Render is looking for a senior software engineer to own authentication and authorization primitives for its cloud platform. You will help shape secure, developer‑friendly experiences that power millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Design and ship authentication and authorization systems including SSO, SCIM provisioning, credential scoping and fine‑grained permission models.
• Evolve the platform’s authorization model with clear permissions and scopes for applications, environments, projects and other resources.
• Own the security experience across the stack, from UI to APIs, data models and underlying services.
• Operate these systems with observability, safe rollouts, incident response and on‑call duties.

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience shipping and operating production systems.
• Proven track record building customer‑facing authentication or authorization features.
• Ability to balance security controls with product friction and make pragmatic design decisions.
• Experience taking ambiguous projects from design through production while collaborating with product, design and other engineering teams.

Required skills

• OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, SCIM, JWT.
• Multi‑tenant authorization models such as RBAC, ABAC or ReBAC and policy engines.
• Workload identity, short‑lived credentials, secrets management and privileged access controls.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks like SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
