Shipping and Receiving Specialist

About the role

National Wire is seeking a Freight Procurement Specialist to own the sourcing, negotiation, and management of outbound and inbound freight. You will partner with operations, finance, and sales to reduce cost‑per‑ton, improve on‑time delivery, and strengthen our carrier network for flatbed and stepdeck shipments.

Key responsibilities

• Source and negotiate contracts, spot rates, and fuel surcharges with carriers; run RFPs as volume and lane mix change.
• Tender outbound loads, secure capacity, and resolve coverage issues in real time while coordinating load‑out timing with Conroe operations.
• Track and report freight cost metrics (cost per ton, cost per mile, accessorial spend) and identify monthly savings opportunities.
• Monitor carrier performance, manage on‑time pickup/delivery, claims, and conduct quarterly business reviews with top carriers.
• Maintain carrier insurance certificates, authority verification, and ensure compliance with DOT and state regulations.
• Collaborate with Sales on freight quotes, Finance on accruals and reconciliation, and Operations on yard and dock coordination.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in freight procurement, logistics brokerage, or shipper‑side transportation management.
• Proven track record negotiating with truckload carriers; flatbed/stepdeck experience preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• Experience with TMS platforms.
• Proficiency using DAT/Truckstop tools.
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, basic modeling).
• Ability to work with ERP‑sourced data for analysis.
