Service Technician - Student Living
greystar · The Oliver (DC)
Job description
About the role
A Service Technician is needed at The Oliver DC, a student living property managed by Greystar. The role covers technical and mechanical work that keeps the buildings, grounds, amenities and common areas clean, safe and functional, and prepares vacant apartments for leasing and move-in.
Key responsibilities
- Complete work orders from residents and preventative maintenance by diagnosing problems and repairing them according to policy, safety standards and code requirements.
- Run the make-ready process for vacant apartments: pre-move-out inspection, punch list, vendor and contractor scheduling, supplies and materials, and final inspection of completed work.
- Track inventory, return unused items and notify the maintenance supervisor of re-order needs.
- Document service requests accurately and on time.
- Help maintain grounds and common areas: pick up trash, pressure wash breezeways and pool areas, general cleaning and painting curbs and signage.
- Support cost control by fixing rather than replacing parts and using tools and materials efficiently.
- Take part in safety meetings, OSHA and other safety training, and report accidents promptly.
- Occasionally check contractor work and help with routine property inspections.
Required profile
- High school diploma, GED or related experience and/or training.
- At least 2 years of experience in property management maintenance, building maintenance or a related trade.
- EPA Type I and II or Universal certification for refrigerant recycling (for Certified Service Technicians).
- All state and local certifications and a valid driver's license (golf cart operation may be required).
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather, lift occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance, and work a flexible schedule including call-outs on evenings, weekends and holidays.
Required skills
- Proficiency with internet, word processing, spreadsheet and database programs for reports and documents.
- Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
What we offer
- Hourly rate of $24-26, with possible weekly, monthly or quarterly bonuses for onsite positions.
- Medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, plus a 401(k) with company match up to 6% after 6 months.
- Paid time off: 15 vacation days, 4 personal days, 10 sick days and 11 paid holidays, plus a 6-week paid sabbatical after 10 years.
- Paid parental leave, fertility benefit reimbursement, employee assistance program and onsite housing discounts.
