Senior/Staff Attorney – Immigrant Justice

About the role

The Southern Poverty Law Center is seeking a dedicated attorney to join its Immigrant Justice Advocacy and Litigation Impact Team (IJ ALIT). The role involves litigating constitutional and statutory immigration cases and leading multi‑strategy advocacy campaigns to protect the rights of immigrants and migrants.

Key responsibilities

• Litigate complex individual, multi‑plaintiff, and class‑action cases in federal, state, and administrative courts.
• Develop and lead impact‑litigation and systemic‑reform initiatives targeting detention, deportation practices, and discrimination.
• Collaborate with community partners and grassroots organizations, especially in the Deep South, to advance immigrant‑justice campaigns.
• Conduct outreach, provide technical assistance, and support community‑oriented lawyering efforts.
• Draft briefs, memoranda, and public‑education materials in coordination with the team.

Required profile

• Proven experience litigating complex immigration‑related cases involving the U.S. Constitution and federal statutes.
• Experience working with community organizations and impacted communities on immigrant‑rights issues.
• Commitment to non‑hierarchical, client‑centered advocacy and ability to handle sensitive matters with compassion.
• Strong analytical ability to synthesize legal and policy developments.
