Senior Transportation Quality Assurance Engineer

About the role

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is seeking a Senior Transportation Quality Assurance Engineer to lead quality reviews for roadway, bridge and structural projects across the Detroit metro area. This senior‑level role combines technical oversight with mentorship of junior staff within a fast‑paced transportation practice.

Key responsibilities

• Perform QA reviews of engineering plans, calculations, specifications, estimates and design deliverables to ensure compliance with MDOT, local agency and industry standards.
• Provide PE‑level plan review and sign‑off support for final engineering documents.
• Collaborate with project managers, multidisciplinary teams and technical staff to support successful project execution.
• Develop and improve QA/QC procedures, standards and best practices.
• Mentor junior engineers on quality standards and review processes.
• Contribute quickly to active projects in a high‑volume environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• 8‑10+ years of transportation engineering experience.
• Strong QA/QC mindset with proven experience in technical design reviews.
• Experience with MDOT roadway projects and local agency transportation projects is a plus.

Required skills

• OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
• MicroStation.
• Roadway design workflow familiarity.
