Senior Transportation Design Lead Engineer

About the role

Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU) is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead multidisciplinary projects in its transportation civil design group while driving business development across Utah and Colorado. The role combines project leadership with client relationship building, proposal strategy and mentoring of junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Manage project delivery in the transportation civil design group, meeting quality, schedule and budget expectations
• Work with practice leaders and technical staff to deliver integrated solutions, and act as a technical resource for junior staff
• Lead or contribute to project scoping, budgeting and QA/QC reviews
• Build client relationships and cultivate long-term partnerships
• Support regional business development: use existing relationships with public agencies, municipalities, CDOT and private clients to generate leads, and track and qualify them
• Lead proposal strategy and development, coordinate pursuit teams, premarketing, interviews, scoping and contract negotiations, and mentor junior staff in client engagement
• Contribute to strategic hiring and staff development, and help build an inclusive office culture

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline such as civil engineering, urban/transportation planning or environmental sciences
• 10+ years of experience in the transportation industry, with 5+ years of proven project management experience
• Established network in Colorado with a record of winning and delivering transportation work
• Proven experience leading proposals and winning work with public-sector clients
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across internal departments
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Preferred: Professional Engineer license, cross-disciplinary awareness of transportation services and funding sources, project management tool experience, mentoring experience, deep knowledge of transportation policies and decision makers
