Substation Inspector/Observer – Project Specific

About the role

The Substation Inspector/Observer is responsible for overseeing the construction of contracted substation projects. The role performs daily on‑site inspections to ensure work complies strictly with drawings, specifications and approved project documents.

Key responsibilities

• Observe testing requirements for drilled pier foundations, slab on grade, monolithic foundations, access roads, yard rock, ground grid, substation steel and wiring.
• Interact professionally with contractors, providing clear, accurate and timely communications.
• Create and maintain detailed daily inspection reports and review any discrepancies with the appropriate parties.
• Maintain all contract documents, permits and updated drawings.
• Ensure a safety‑conscious work environment and initiate corrective actions as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience with substation facilities and foundations.
• Previous substation construction and inspection experience; journeyman lineman experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of construction specifications, drawings and conformance requirements.
• Proficiency with project‑management software such as Procore and Microsoft Office.
• Basic familiarity with field mobile applications (e.g., ArcGIS, Field Maps) preferred.
• Relevant certifications such as FHWA NHI Drilled Shaft Inspector Qualification or ACI Concrete Field‑Testing Grade I.
