Senior Tax Analyst – Sales & Use Tax (Tax Manager)

About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Tax Analyst with deep expertise in Sales & Use tax and hands‑on experience with Avalara. The role will evolve into a Tax Manager/Lead, overseeing the tax function for a fast‑growing $100M+ organization based in Houston.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of sales and use tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including filings, reporting and payments.
• Oversee and optimize Avalara implementation, ensuring accuracy, scalability and proper integration.
• Maintain exemption certificates and perform taxability determinations.
• Monitor nexus and ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations.
• Lead and manage sales and use tax audits, including responses to notices.
• Serve as primary liaison with external tax advisors and review externally prepared tax filings.
• Coordinate tax compliance calendars and ensure timely filings.
• Evaluate outsourced tax processes, design and implement internal controls and automation.
• Partner with accounting and finance teams on transaction tax treatment and acquisition due diligence.
• Track legislative changes and support tax planning initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3–5+ years of tax experience with a strong focus on sales and use tax.
• Hands‑on experience with Avalara.
• Experience managing multi‑state tax compliance and audits.
• Proven ability to build or improve tax processes.
• Strong understanding of transaction tax regulations.
• Experience in a high‑growth or mid‑size company environment (preferred).
• CPA or advanced degree is a plus but not required.
