Senior Staff Actuary

About the role

HCSC is hiring a Senior Staff Actuary in Chicago. The role manages the implementation, maintenance and critical review and analysis of actuarial models, studies and systems used for pricing, underwriting, reserving, forecasting and other actuarial functions. It is a hybrid position with three days a week in the office, and no visa sponsorship is available.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the implementation, maintenance and critical review and analysis of models, studies and systems using actuarial principles for pricing, underwriting, reserving, forecasting and other functions
• Develop complicated models and teach others how to develop them
• Develop written and oral presentations that support decision-making
• Manage day-to-day projects that may involve non-actuarial departments
• Demonstrate a deep understanding of one actuarial area or business segment

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Economics; other degrees may be considered
• Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), with compliance with membership requirements
• At least 5 years of actuarial experience in health insurance or a related field
• Verbal and written communication skills for documentation, training and presentations

Required skills

• PC proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel
• Preferred: Access, SQL, Visual Basic or other programming skills

What we offer

• Base pay range of $102,000 to $184,300, varying with skills, experience and location
