Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

About the role

BILL is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test to champion quality across its engineering squads. You will design and implement test automation, collaborate early in the product lifecycle, and help the team release continuously with confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Spend the majority of time building automation with TypeScript/Playwright, covering UI and API layers.
• Partner with engineers, product, and design to define clear acceptance criteria and specifications.
• Coach developers to own test authoring and embed quality practices into CI/CD pipelines.
• Leverage AI tools for test generation, self‑healing locators, coverage analysis, and failure triage.
• Conduct manual and exploratory testing to verify new features and edge cases.
• Investigate test failures, distinguish product defects from flaky tests, and maintain release criteria.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience on a software development team, preferably in a cross‑functional environment.
• Strong ability to quickly learn new technologies and languages.
• Experience documenting manual tests and writing release criteria.

Required skills

• TypeScript and JavaScript proficiency.
• Playwright or similar modern browser automation framework.
• API testing (REST/GraphQL) and contract validation.
• CI/CD pipeline knowledge and quality gating.
• AI‑assisted testing tools for test generation and self‑healing locators.
