About the role
The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami seeks a Senior Research Associate II to support the Marine Mammal Molecular Genomics Laboratory. The position focuses on environmental DNA (eDNA) work and bioinformatics to aid marine mammal conservation in the southeastern United States.
Key responsibilities
- Collect eDNA samples in the field and perform laboratory extractions.
- Conduct quantitative and digital PCR, metabarcoding, and next‑generation sequencing library preparation.
- Analyze genomic data sets and manage pipelines.
- Enter data into databases, archive samples, and maintain equipment.
- Prepare technical reports and contribute to peer‑reviewed manuscripts.
Required profile
- Master’s degree or higher in marine biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- At least one year of relevant experience with demonstrable research contributions.
- Hands‑on experience with eDNA collection and genomic data analysis.
- Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking abilities.
- Commitment to collaborative, inclusive teamwork.
