Senior Product Reliability Engineer – Expanded Beam Optics

About the role

As a Senior Product Reliability Engineer in 3M’s Expanded Beam Optics business, you will work with global teams to ensure the performance, stability, and cost‑effectiveness of optical interconnect products. You will lead technical projects, support change management, and drive new product introductions from prototype to large‑scale manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Optimize interconnect products and ferrules through raw‑material substitution, quality improvement, and cost‑reduction projects.
• Lead change‑management activities and validate product performance for design, process, or material changes using optical laboratory equipment.
• Maintain product performance and stability by directing improvement projects and design modifications.
• Drive scale‑up activities as a core team member for new product introductions.
• Own product standards, specifications, and claims substantiation processes.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, global laboratories, and manufacturing sites.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline (required).
• At least four years of product, materials, or process engineering experience in private, public, government, or military settings.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in physics, optics, or a related field.
• Experience with quality, manufacturing, or product development of optical connectors or ferrules.
• Proven ability to scale optical technologies to large‑scale manufacturing.
