Senior Process Engineer - Refining Specialist

About the role

Matrix Technologies is seeking a Senior Process Engineer with deep expertise in refinery processes to join its Maumee, Ohio office. The role blends project execution with business development, leveraging existing relationships with Northwest Ohio refineries.

Key responsibilities

• Engage plant personnel, clients, and stakeholders to identify project opportunities and understand operational needs.
• Leverage relationships at Northwest Ohio refineries to support strategic business development and expand client accounts.
• Conduct site visits, feasibility studies, and process evaluations to support client goals and safety compliance.
• Lead or support engineering projects including process improvements, retrofits, debottlenecking, and new unit designs.
• Collaborate with multi‑discipline teams (mechanical, electrical, automation) and support process safety activities such as HAZOPs and PHAs.
• Mentor junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and industry insights.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years of oil and gas experience, specifically in refinery operations or projects.
• Strong working relationships with key personnel at refineries in or near Northwest Ohio.
• Excellent communication skills and a client‑focused mindset.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Required skills

• Process simulation tools such as Aspen Plus, HYSYS, ProMax.
• Familiarity with OSHA PSM regulations and participation/facilitation of PHAs.
• Experience with refining processes (distillation, hydrotreating, catalytic cracking, reforming, etc.).
