Senior Plumbing Engineer

About the role

HEAPY is hiring a Senior Plumbing Designer or Plumbing Engineer for a hybrid position in its Raleigh office, supporting the Healthcare and Corporate teams. The role applies standard plumbing design engineering techniques to projects in the built environment, with a foundational understanding of fire suppression design for renovations and straightforward systems.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure accurate input into design tools and understand the reasons behind design choices
• Develop full plan designs, details and outlines, identify materials, estimate costs and perform calculations for project segments
• Gather and record information for design specifications
• Review and approve plumbing design drawings, and review shop drawings, bids and submittals for compliance with specifications
• Perform field observations, tests and measurements, and prepare designs, reports and documentation
• Apply standard plumbing design techniques to segments of projects, small projects or larger projects
• Use AI and automation in design and project work where appropriate
• Meet project deadlines and ensure deliverables meet client requirements and standards
• Build strong customer relationships and suggest new ideas and technologies

Required profile

• Normally a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program; equivalent experience or training may be considered
• Typically 6+ years of related experience in plumbing engineering systems in the built environment
• Ability to judge and adapt design techniques, procedures and criteria
• FE certification and work toward PE registration or Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) designation, within two years of the position
• Reliable transportation to project sites and ability to work in varied weather conditions

Required skills

• Experience with computer software packages and automated plumbing design equipment
• Ability to work sedentary at a workstation and communicate in person, electronically and by phone
