Senior Patient Care Coordinator

About the role

Optum NY/NJ, part of UnitedHealth Group, is hiring a friendly, patient-focused and detailed Senior Patient Care Coordinator in Hoboken, NJ. The coordinator completes set processes and protocols, works with the care team to support the organization's vision and mission, delivers excellent customer service and follows Lean processes. The role reports to the site manager and helps lead front desk staff in a multi-specialty healthcare facility.

Schedule: 40-hour week, 8-hour shifts Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., plus rotating Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain accurate patient information (name, address, insurance) and perform insurance verification on the date of service
• Obtain patient signatures, upload government-issued ID and insurance cards, and run the occupational medicine registration workflow
• File and maintain medical records, correct registration errors in the work queues, confirm and schedule appointments, and handle referrals and follow-up requests
• Answer calls promptly, scan documents, monitor the fax server and assign them to the right electronic chart
• Take part in care planning with the multidisciplinary team, track appointments and notify clinical staff of schedule changes
• Help orient new field employees and complete new clinical competencies

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• 1+ year of computer proficiency (Outlook, Excel, Word) and 1+ year of medical office experience (scheduling, check-in/out, insurance verification, co-pay collection, records)
• Preferred: excellent communication and phone etiquette, 1+ year of customer service experience, bilingual Spanish and English, ability to travel to other offices

Required skills

• Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
• Electronic health record or EPIC (preferred)
• Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA requirements
