Job description
About the role
Mirantis, a Kubernetes-native AI infrastructure company, is looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join its IT team in Silicon Valley. The role covers the networking of the internal AI labs and the broader company network, including the datacenter/colocation facility. It is the second dedicated networking role on the team, working alongside an existing network engineer in Europe, and expects regular on-site presence at the local datacenter.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and operate the network fabric for the AI labs, with segmentation for multiple engineering groups, and own capacity planning and expansion.
- Own the physical and logical infrastructure at the Silicon Valley datacenter/colo, including rack and cabling standards, cross-connects and power/port planning, and operate other datacenters remotely via contractors.
- Provide hands-on server and hardware support: racking, cabling, provisioning, firmware/BMC (iDRAC/iLO) management and physical troubleshooting.
- Share ownership of the corporate network (offices, LAN/WLAN, remote access, site-to-site VPN, cloud interconnects, SD-WAN) with the European network engineer.
- Partner with security teams on firewall policies, ACLs, network access control and least-privilege segmentation.
- Implement monitoring, alerting and traffic visibility, and use it for capacity planning.
- Establish standards, runbooks and architecture documentation, and automate configuration and operations (IaC/network automation).
- Take part in an on-call rotation, triage incidents, perform root cause analysis and contribute to post-incident reviews.
Required profile
- 5+ years of network engineering experience, with networking as the core of the background.
- Comfortable working on-site in a datacenter and coordinating remote-hands or contractor work.
- Willingness to own the compute layer alongside the network, with server hardware knowledge (provisioning, BMC management, iDRAC/iLO).
- Experience with cloud and hybrid connectivity (AWS interconnects, VPN, SD-WAN).
- On-call and incident management experience; good communication and documentation skills.
Required skills
- Datacenter switching and routing: spine/leaf or top-of-rack fabrics, VLANs, VXLAN/EVPN, BGP/OSPF, structured cabling.
- Firewalls, ACLs, site-to-site and remote access VPNs, network segmentation; vendor experience with Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Palo Alto or Fortinet.
- Network monitoring and observability (SNMP, NetFlow, Prometheus/Grafana).
- Scripting and automation (Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform); strong plus.
- High-throughput GPU/AI cluster networking (RDMA/RoCE, InfiniBand) is a strong plus.
What we offer
- Competitive compensation with a strong benefits plan.
- Professional development, training, conferences and working groups.
- Company outings, happy hours, hackathons and tech talks.
