Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer - Battery Cell Assembly
Amprius Technologies, Inc. · Fremont
Job description
About the role
Amprius Technologies, a manufacturer of lithium-ion battery cells with silicon anode technology, is hiring hands-on Senior Manufacturing Process Engineers for its Fremont, CA manufacturing group. The engineer owns the process parameters, first-pass yield and throughput of a group of cell-assembly stations (front-end or back-end), and reports to the Pilot Line Manager while new pilot-line equipment is brought online.
Key responsibilities
- Own process parameters for assigned stations: develop recipes, define and qualify process windows, and maintain specifications and control plans.
- Run structured experiments (DOE) to optimise yield, cycle time and cell performance, then release results as specifications, SOPs and operator training.
- Own first-pass yield and scrap: build defect Pareto charts, lead root-cause investigations (8D, 5-Why, fishbone) and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive throughput by measuring OEE and cycle time, identifying bottlenecks, and leading line-balancing and changeover-reduction efforts.
- Implement SPC and in-line inspection on critical parameters, and set up data collection (tool logs, MES).
- Lead PFMEAs and control plans, and qualify changes with capability studies (Cpk, Gage R&R).
- Partner with equipment vendors, maintenance and controls engineering on tool issues, and support FAT/SAT and new-tool introduction.
- Write and maintain SOPs and work instructions, train and mentor technicians and operators, and support daily production troubleshooting.
- Apply lean and Six Sigma methods, work with R&D engineers on new processes, and mentor lab technicians as required.
Required profile
- BS in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, Industrial or Electrical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
- 5+ years of process or manufacturing engineering experience in lithium-ion cell production or comparable precision manufacturing, with hands-on ownership of cell-assembly processes.
- Demonstrated end-to-end yield or throughput improvements.
- Ability to work in a dry room and on the production floor daily, lifting up to 25 pounds, and to follow EHS requirements.
- Preferred: pouch-cell experience, MES and tool-data analysis (Python, SQL), Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, and experience ramping new lines to production.
Required skills
- DOE and statistical analysis (JMP, Minitab or equivalent)
- SPC, PFMEA and measurement system analysis (Gage R&R)
- Hands-on experience with cell-assembly equipment such as electrode notching, stacking, ultrasonic or laser tab welding, pouch forming and sealing, electrolyte filling and degassing
What we offer
- Salary range of $125,000 to $155,000, plus medical, dental and vision coverage, HRA, 401(k) and pet insurance.
- Generous vacation leave starting at 3 weeks per year, 10 paid holidays and sick time.
- Cell phone reimbursement and occasional off-shift or weekend support for production escalations.
