R&D Technician - Precision Assembly and Testing

About the role

AOSense, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of quantum technologies using atom optics, is looking for an R&D technician specializing in precision assembly and testing. You will work with physicists and engineers to build and test high-performance, fieldable accelerometers, gyroscopes, gravimeters, atomic clocks, frequency standards and magnetometers, as well as component technologies sold to the R&D community.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with physicists and engineers to assemble and test complex quantum sensor and atomic clock hardware
• Procure and track inventories of mechanical, optical, vacuum and electrical components
• Coordinate component and subsystem fabrication, assembly and test
• Assemble precision mechanical systems and align lasers through optical systems
• Procure and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies
• Define and implement test plans with engineers, bake out and leak test vacuum systems
• Document and report results of validation testing

Required profile

• Demonstrated success in precision mechanical assembly of prototypes and products
• Proven organizational skills and attention to detail
• Hands-on experience with test equipment and excellent troubleshooting skills
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required for U.S. government contracts
• Associate degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent professional experience, including R&D experience

Required skills

• Desired: micro-optical component alignment and vacuum system assembly and testing
• Desired: glovebox assembly, mechanical prototyping, basic machining and finishing, soldering, brazing and adhesives
• Desired: SolidWorks, electronics prototyping, LabVIEW, MATLAB and Python
