Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering
Anthro · Alameda
Job description
About the role
Anthro is seeking a Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering to lead its manufacturing engineering function behind advanced battery technologies, including phase change electrolytes and the cells that contain them. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will own equipment, tooling and production processes, grow the team behind them and personally take the lines from bench to pilot to commercial scale. You will manage a team of manufacturing and process engineers and partner with R&D, equipment suppliers and external partners to industrialize processes from the Alameda pilot facility to the planned commercial facility in Kentucky.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and grow a team of manufacturing and process engineers delivering scale-up initiatives.
- Own the manufacturing process, equipment and tooling design for Proteus electrolyte production and cell manufacturing, partnering with R&D on design-for-manufacturability from pilot through commercial scale.
- Set up preventive and predictive maintenance and equipment-reliability programs (TPM, CMMS-tracked PMs, spare-parts strategy, calibration) and embed good manufacturing practices to maximize uptime, OEE and first-time quality.
- Optimize the core cell-finishing steps, especially electrolyte filling and formation, and tune process windows and equipment to raise first-pass yield, cut cycle time and energy and reduce scrap.
- Apply data-driven methods (SPC, Cp/Cpk, DOE, PFMEA, control plans) and lean/continuous improvement to improve process capability and hit yield, throughput, OEE and cost targets.
- Lead future electrolyte and cell production line expansion, specifying and buying equipment, weighing technoeconomic trade-offs, and driving layout, installation, commissioning and ramp to stable operation.
- Own FAT/SAT and equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), manage punch-list closure and bring-up of pilot and commercial equipment.
- Lead industrialization and technology transfer of the Proteus electrolyte to commercial Li-battery lines, including SOPs, batch records and documentation for a robust quality management system.
- Lead process safety reviews (e.g. HAZOP) and ensure designs meet safety and regulatory requirements.
- Report progress and results to internal and leadership stakeholders.
Required profile
- 7+ years in a manufacturing or process engineering role, with experience in battery and chemicals manufacturing.
- 3+ years managing or leading an engineering team.
- B.S. or M.S. in mechanical, chemical, manufacturing or industrial engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with Li-ion unit processes (cell assembly, electrolyte filling, formation) and Li battery materials production, and with building and ramping Li-battery lines.
- Track record improving first-pass yield, cycle time and scrap using data-driven methods.
- Ability to balance hands-on individual contributor work with team leadership, run multiple projects and communicate across internal teams and external partners.
Required skills
- SPC, Cp/Cpk, DOE, PFMEA, control plans (JMP/Minitab or similar)
- MES/ERP familiarity
- Lean/Six Sigma
- Equipment, tooling and automation design and selection, line and station layout, DFM/DFA
- Plus: reading and creating PFDs, P&IDs, GA drawings and CAD
What we offer
- Salary range of $180k-$230k and equity compensation.
- 15 vacation days, 10+ holidays and sick time off.
- Medical, dental and vision coverage for employees, 60% for dependents.
- 401k with match.
- Paid parental leave with a flexible return-to-work policy.
