Senior Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

Atlassian is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to design, develop and train advanced machine learning models (including NER, personalization, prediction and LLM fine-tuning) that power its products. The role works remotely, 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a stated salary of $276,200 per year.

Key responsibilities

• Ship production-ready ML systems by collaborating with engineering, product and analytics teams to integrate AI features into Atlassian services.
• Perform machine learning model optimization and write production-quality code.
• Run experiments and evaluate models, ensuring performance, scalability and reliability of deployed models.
• Define and monitor product metrics, using data analysis to guide improvements and measure impact.
• Contribute to next-generation AI initiatives, including foundational model development and research into new ML techniques.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to senior leaders through clear presentations and insights.

Required profile

• Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field, plus three years of related work experience.
• Three years of experience building and scaling machine learning models on large datasets, and using anomaly detection to train, validate and ship models.
• Experience with Agile development practices.

Required skills

• Spark and cloud data environments (AWS, Databricks or Azure)
• Python or Java for performant production code
• SQL
• BI tooling such as Tableau, Excel, Power BI or Looker
