Senior Java Spring Boot Developer

About the role

Fathom Management is seeking a Senior Java Spring Boot Developer to modernize legacy monolithic applications, design and build scalable microservices, and support production‑grade APIs in a cloud‑native environment for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute migration of monolithic Java applications into service‑oriented microservices while minimizing disruption.
• Lead API design and development using REST and, where appropriate, GraphQL, defining specifications, endpoints and data models.
• Develop, test, debug and maintain core Java services, ensuring production‑grade quality.
• Modernize database architecture, perform query tuning, indexing, caching and help transition shared databases to service‑specific layers.
• Build and operate containerized workloads on AWS using Docker, Kubernetes and Helm, supporting scaling and rollouts.
• Implement secure development practices, including OAuth‑based authentication, authorization and encryption.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Batch and Hibernate.
• Proven experience designing, deploying and maintaining APIs in AWS cloud environments.
• Strong background in relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, AWS RDS) and performance optimization.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm and CI/CD pipelines.
