Senior Frontend Engineer, Spend

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer for its Spend team in San Francisco. The Spend team builds the financial operating layer for modern businesses, combining corporate cards, expenses, bills and procurement on top of accounts, payments and issuing infrastructure, and is building AI that helps automate expense decisions. The engineer works from the San Francisco office three days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Build and improve frontend experiences that simplify expense management, from real-time expense tracking and automated receipt capture to approvals and integrations.
• Build maintainable, scalable web interfaces using React and TypeScript within a domain-based Micro Frontend architecture.
• Partner with product managers, designers and backend engineers to clarify requirements and deliver high-quality experiences in production.
• Integrate frontend applications with backend services via Apollo GraphQL and a Backend-for-Frontend layer, and contribute to shared UI components and the design system.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, testing, documentation, bug triage, performance improvements and participation in Frontend Guild discussions, technical spikes and experimentation.

Required profile

• 6+ years of professional frontend software development experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field.
• Track record of well-tested, maintainable code and contribution to technical documentation.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, product and design.
• Preferred: comfort owning the roadmap and outcomes, a direct but respectful way of working, and a user-centric mindset.

Required skills

• JavaScript or TypeScript, React, HTML/CSS and modern web development practices.
• Experience integrating frontend applications with APIs and improving frontend performance.
• Preferred: GraphQL, design systems, Micro Frontend architecture, CI/CD, monitoring and frontend observability tools.
