Senior Director of Housing Programs

About the role

The Senior Director of Housing Programs leads five program teams and supports over 40 staff delivering scattered‑site, site‑based housing and eviction‑prevention services for families experiencing homelessness in San Francisco.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise five Program Directors and coordinate strategy across rapid rehousing, eviction prevention, housing location, and permanent supportive housing programs.
• Represent Compass externally, build funder relationships, ensure contractual compliance, and drive advocacy with public policy partners.
• Collaborate with Development, Impact & Learning, Behavioral Health, Training, and People Strategy teams to secure funding, use data for program improvement, and embed trauma‑informed, anti‑racist practices.
• Provide crisis intervention and direct client care when needed.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of staff supervision experience, including direct and indirect reports.
• At least three years managing nonprofit programs for low‑income, housing‑insecure, or homeless populations.
• Experience overseeing complex budgets and government contracts, preferably subsidy programs.
• Strong communication, advocacy, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a deep commitment to DEIB.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with Salesforce (preferred).

What we offer

• Salary range $135,000‑$145,000 per year.
• Generous paid time off: 4 weeks vacation first year, 5 weeks second year, plus holidays, sick time, family leave, and education leave.
