Senior Data Scientist - Remote

About the role

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is hiring a Senior Data Scientist to support ECS Strategy Reporting and Analytics. The role manages mostly structured and semi-structured data, builds business intelligence tools, runs analysis to spot patterns and trends, performs normalization and ensures data quality. It integrates performance management frameworks with operational reporting so ECS can monitor key metrics, find improvement opportunities and optimize workflows. The position is remote from anywhere in the U.S.; candidates in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area must work in the office at least four days per week.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze, review, forecast and trend complex data, and review the analysis and interpretation of others' work
• Develop and implement business, reporting and data solutions through research and analysis of data and business processes
• Support short- and long-term operational and strategic activities through analysis
• Act as an expert and mentor, anticipate customer needs and solve complex problems
• Lead functional or segment teams or projects, forecast resource requirements and authorize deviations from standards
• Use business intelligence, data visualization, query, analytical, statistical and data engineering tools to build scalable solutions

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Data Analyst
• 6+ years working with relational databases and database structures (such as SQL or Oracle)
• 3+ years building solutions in business intelligence and data visualization tools (Tableau or Power BI preferred)
• 3+ years using data manipulation software such as Alteryx or SSIS
• Expert-level SQL querying and intermediate+ MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Data engineering and ETL: Apache Airflow, SSIS, ETL/ELT pipelines
• Databases: Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL, Snowflake
• Visualization: Power BI, Tableau, Excel, Access
• Relational data modeling, process automation, Git / GitHub, XML, JSON
