Senior Data Engineer

About the role

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is hiring a Senior Data Engineer in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The role works on the CareData Platform, a Microsoft Azure cloud-based data platform that enables Care Delivery Organizations to manage their own data while allowing enterprise-wide aggregation and normalization. The team owns and operates one of the largest data ingestion pipelines feeding the platform, building and maintaining automated data flows that move, reconcile and validate data into the national Snowflake instance. The position offers the option to telecommute from anywhere in the U.S.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, improve, automate and evaluate data pipelines
• Improve data efficiency, reliability and quality, and ensure data integrity
• Create and manage data stores at scale
• Ensure data governance covering security, quality, access and compliance
• Analyze current business practices and identify opportunities to leverage data storage and retrieval capabilities
• Manage relationships with software and hardware vendors and assess their architectural impact
• Design schemas, write SQL or other data markup scripts, and support analytics and application development
• Select, develop and evaluate personnel to ensure efficient operation of the function

Required profile

• 5+ years designing, coding and supporting distributed, data-intensive systems at scale
• 5+ years with relational database delivery (ETL, ELT)
• 5+ years within the SDLC and 3+ years in Agile delivery
• 3+ years with cloud-based data platforms (Google, Azure or Amazon) and 3+ years with relational databases (Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, etc.)
• 3+ years with Databricks, Kafka and Kafka connectors
• 2+ years with Snowflake, Cosmos DB and PostgreSQL

Required skills

• BigData/Hive, Docker, Jenkins, Kafka, Databricks, Spark, Snowflake
• Preferred: DevOps automation tools (Oozie, Python), full automated testing frameworks (Cucumber, Spock, JUnit), Kubernetes/OpenShift, CI/CD platforms (GitHub, Jenkins, Grafana, Prometheus)
