Software Engineer (Java, Full Stack, Telecommute Available)

About the role

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is hiring a Software Engineer in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. You will design, code, test and support enterprise-level applications in an Agile team, building full-stack solutions and improving platform architecture. The role offers the option to telecommute, subject to the company's telecommuter policy.

Key responsibilities

• Design, code, test, debug, document and support applications according to specifications and business requirements
• Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks and improve software processes
• Evaluate emerging technologies to guide design, performance and innovation
• Work with cross-functional teams on architecture, security remediation and performance tuning
• Support QA/UAT testing, defect analysis, automation tests and release readiness reviews
• Provide code reviews, mentorship and technical leadership
• Take part in Scrum ceremonies, design reviews and release planning
• Communicate with internal and external stakeholders and present recommendations
• Design and deploy AI-powered solutions responsibly

Required profile

• 3+ years of software development experience
• 3+ years developing applications with Java and frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring or similar enterprise technologies
• 2+ years with web frameworks and front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ReactJS or Angular)
• 2+ years with automated testing tools (JUnit, TestNG, Mockito) and build/CI tools (Git, Maven, Jenkins)
• 1+ year using AI tools such as Copilot
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in CS, Software Engineering, Information Systems or related field; Agile/Scrum experience; healthcare domain experience
