Senior Data Platform Engineer (Azure & Databricks)

About the role

Ahold Delhaize USA, a division of the global food retailer Ahold Delhaize, is hiring a Software Engineer III (Senior Data Platform Engineer) in Salisbury, NC. The engineer designs, engineers, automates, secures and supports enterprise data platforms built on Microsoft Azure and Azure Databricks, driving modernization, security, reliability, automation, observability and cost optimization. The role works closely with Data Engineering, Cloud Operations, Architecture, Cybersecurity and other technology teams. The schedule is flexible and hybrid: 3 in-person days at the Salisbury office and 2 remote days.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure and support Azure infrastructure and data-platform services, including Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Key Vault and managed identities.
• Engineer and troubleshoot Azure networking (VNets, subnets, NSGs, Private Link, DNS, routing, firewalls, NSPs) and secure connectivity between Databricks, storage, applications and enterprise networks.
• Administer Azure Databricks workspaces, including compute, serverless capabilities, Unity Catalog, storage integration, identity and access management, security policies and troubleshooting.
• Build reusable Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and/or Azure Bicep to automate provisioning of infrastructure, workspaces, networking, storage and security controls.
• Implement DevSecOps and CI/CD with GitHub, GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps, including automated deployment, testing and security controls.
• Maintain security and governance controls such as Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC, managed identities, service principals, OAuth, Key Vault, Unity Catalog, secrets management and audit logging.
• Support Databricks and Unity Catalog capabilities (metastore, catalogs, schemas, external locations, storage credentials, permissions) with data-domain owners.
• Set up monitoring and observability with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Databricks system tables, Datadog and related tools, with alerts and dashboards.
• Drive reliability through incident management, root-cause analysis, vulnerability remediation, patching, upgrades, capacity management, high availability, BCDR and performance optimization.
• Identify FinOps and cost-optimization opportunities, including compute sizing, serverless workloads, storage lifecycle management, stale-resource cleanup, tagging and cost attribution.
• Lead technically through code reviews, platform standards, documentation, mentoring and collaboration with engineering teams and managed-service partners.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, DevOps or platform engineering, with strong hands-on experience designing and supporting enterprise Microsoft Azure environments.
• Meaningful hands-on experience with Azure Databricks platform engineering and administration.
• Demonstrated experience with Terraform and/or Azure Bicep, Git-based development, CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps and automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash or similar).
• Experience operating enterprise platforms with an understanding of security, governance, observability, reliability, incident management, BCDR, performance optimization and cloud cost management.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills; applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

• Azure Databricks: workspace administration, Unity Catalog, compute, storage integration, identity and access management, security, monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Terraform and/or Azure Bicep, Git, CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps.
• Preferred: Azure and/or Databricks certifications, advanced Terraform/Azure Bicep/Databricks Terraform provider/GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps experience, and experience with Databricks SQL, Delta Lake, Lakeflow, MLflow, Datadog, Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.

Salary range: $125,040 - $187,560, depending on qualifications, experience, internal equity and market conditions.
