Senior Data and Platform Engineer

About the role

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies are seeking a Senior Data and Platform Engineer to build, deploy, and own applications, automations, and data flows that support the engineering organization. The role sits within the Process, Methods and Tools team and combines hands‑on software development with product ownership.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain applications and services that support engineering process execution, including full lifecycle management.
• Create integrations and automations across the engineering toolchain (requirements, issue management, etc.) to eliminate manual handoffs.
• Model, pipeline, and maintain data for process and quality reporting using Databricks.
• Act as product manager for your applications: gather requirements, manage backlog, set expectations, and prioritize with stakeholders.
• Manage AWS and Databricks resources and GitLab CI/CD pipelines, ensuring reliability, security, and cost efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of professional software development experience delivering production‑ready applications.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across time zones with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Self‑starter who can operate with limited direction in a fast‑moving environment.

• Python (service development, automation, data processing)
• AWS (compute, storage, IAM, networking fundamentals)
• Databricks (Spark/PySpark, SQL, Delta Lake)
• GitLab (source control, CI/CD pipelines)
• Experience with workflow/low‑code platforms, Terraform (IaC), and modern front‑end frameworks is a plus.
