Senior Control Systems Engineer

About the role

BASF is hiring a Senior Control Systems Engineer for its Petrochemicals (CP) team in Freeport, TX, working onsite. As part of the Acrylic Acid Process Management team, you will ensure the unit's control systems run safely, reliably and efficiently, lead control system lifecycle and migration efforts, guide maintenance strategies for automation assets and work closely with Operations, Technology and Maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead configuration, preventive maintenance, hardware and software support and administration of control systems in the Acrylic Acid units, including programming HMIs, DCS and (safety) PLCs with function block diagrams, ladder logic and sequential function charts
• Troubleshoot, tune and optimize PID control loops, lead root cause failure analyses and implement corrective actions
• Support capital and maintenance projects through design, implementation and commissioning, acting as Manufacturing Representative or MOC Coordinator on selected projects
• Develop long-term control system lifecycle plans and maintain logic drawings and system configurations
• Track total cost of ownership by monitoring failures, tracking maintenance contracts, optimizing software upgrades and coordinating with vendors
• Take part in peer groups to standardize control systems across the Freeport site

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer, Chemical, Electrical Engineering or a related engineering major
• 7+ years of experience with control systems, automation and instrumentation, including DCS and/or PLC programming
• Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail
• Willingness to respond to critical after-hours events affecting EHS or production
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Required skills

• DCS and/or PLC programming (Foxboro DCS, Triconex, Allen-Bradley PLC preferred)
• HMI, DCS and PLC programming
