Senior Advanced Process Control Expert

About the role

BASF is looking for a Senior Advanced Process Control Expert to join its Global Engineering team in Freeport, TX. The role builds and leads the Advanced Process Control (APC) team for North America and supports the global E&M strategy to establish knowledge in APC across the region. Up to 50% domestic and international travel is required, and local telecommuting is allowed two days per week.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead new APC projects and maintain and revamp existing ones
• Create standardized work processes for APC projects and their support infrastructure (application servers, networks, firewalls)
• Identify, champion and maintain Process Automation Systems, focusing on APC technology
• Lead optimization of base layer control strategies and design Advanced Regulatory Control opportunities
• Lead studies on the economic feasibility of APC implementations and evaluate new technologies, including AI solutions
• Represent BASF NA in global APC initiatives and negotiate with vendors of APC, AI for Operations and soft sensors solutions
• Provide startup support for automation systems worldwide, including controller tuning and troubleshooting

Required profile

• Master's degree in Electronic, Electrical or Chemical Engineering or a closely related field
• 15 years of related experience, including 10 years leading APC projects in chemicals, refining or petrochemicals
• Experience with core chemistries such as acetylene, acrylic acid, butadiene, ethylene oxide, MDI, TDI and steam crackers
• Knowledge of control concepts, loop tuning and control system technology
• Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Required skills

• Aspen DMCPlus and DMC3
• Control theory, basic and advanced regulatory control, and control strategy development in DCS systems such as ABB 800xA, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion and Schneider Foxboro
• Implementing AI-based process control solutions
