Senior Consultant, Tax Controversy

About the role

The Federal Tax Specialty team seeks a Senior Consultant to deliver federal tax controversy services to a diverse client base. You will join a growing practice focused on strategic tax advisory, risk management, and innovative solutions that go beyond compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide federal tax controversy services, handling IRS notices, audits, penalties, and procedural matters.
• Lead fact‑gathering, research, and analysis of complex tax issues and IRS procedures.
• Draft written correspondence such as letters, tax memos, and documentation for client engagements.
• Assist clients with penalty abatement, entity classification elections, and requests for TAS assistance.
• Prepare IDR/NOPA responses, protests, and other materials for administrative appeals.
• Manage communications with clients and internal engagement teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of public‑accounting experience or specialized federal tax expertise.
• Current CPA, EA, JD, or LLM credential is preferred.
• Strong understanding of interest rules, regulations, revenue procedures, and IRS guidelines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience using DMI (Decision Modeling, Inc.) Interest and Penalty software or similar interest‑netting tools.
