Senior Business Economist

About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is seeking a Senior Business Economist to support monetary‑policy research and outreach across the Seventh District. You will gather and analyse regional economic data, engage with business leaders, and translate on‑the‑ground insights into policy‑relevant information.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate approximately 32 district economic roundtables, advisory council meetings, and conferences each year, handling logistics, participant recruitment, and material preparation.
• Support survey programs such as the quarterly Agricultural Land Values and Credit Conditions Survey and the monthly Chicago Fed Survey of Economic Conditions, including participant management, data collection, and preliminary analysis.
• Conduct outreach to business contacts via phone, email, and site visits, documenting observations and maintaining contact records.
• Contribute to the Seventh District’s section of the Beige Book and other regional economic reports.
• Collaborate with policy professionals in Chicago and Detroit on research and analysis of sector‑specific trends (manufacturing, agriculture, automotive, etc.).

Required profile

• Intermediate‑level economist with a solid grounding in regional economics and research methods.
• Ability to work under general supervision and collaborate within a collegial team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting economic insights to policymakers and external stakeholders.
