Senior Automation Engineer

About the role

Excelitas Technologies is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to support and improve manufacturing automation systems, enhancing production efficiency, reliability, and process consistency. The role works closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams and can be based in Boulder, CO or Pittsburgh, PA.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and support automation systems, PLCs, robotics, and control systems used in manufacturing operations.
• Diagnose and resolve automation‑related issues to ensure equipment uptime and production continuity.
• Identify and implement process improvements to boost equipment performance, cycle time, and overall efficiency.
• Support design, testing, commissioning, and validation of new automation equipment and system upgrades.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for production and maintenance teams, analyzing performance data to resolve root‑cause problems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of experience with industrial automation systems in manufacturing environments.
• Technical certifications in PLC programming or industrial automation are preferred.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms).
• Experience with HMI systems, robotics, sensors, and industrial control systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and automation issues.
