Controls Engineer

About the role

Excelitas Technologies is seeking a Controls Engineer to maintain and enhance automated manufacturing tools supporting optical fabrication, coating, and assembly activities at its Boulder, CO facility.

Key responsibilities

• Support existing automated manufacturing equipment, providing user training, preventative maintenance, and ensuring high machine uptime.
• Evaluate current manufacturing practices and identify automation opportunities to improve repeatability, cycle time, yield, and cost.
• Develop business cases for capital investment in automation and manage supplier relationships for equipment deployment and service.
• Ensure systems meet safety and quality standards (ISO14001, ISO45001, ISO9001) in collaboration with EHS and Quality teams.
• Lead Installation, Operational, and Production Qualification (IQOQPQ) activities and adhere to project timelines and budgets.

Required profile

• BS in Engineering, Physics or related field (MS preferred).
• 8+ years of industry experience in automation or manufacturing engineering.
• Six Sigma Green or Black Belt (a plus).
• Strong communication and cross‑functional teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• Robotics, motion controls, and vision systems in high‑mix manufacturing.
• PLC programming.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications for coated precision optics.
• Quantitative analysis, statistical tools, and quality‑tool application.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ERP systems, PLM tools, and custom SQL applications.
