Senior Associate – Instrumentation & Calibration Technical Support

About the role
Alcon is seeking a Senior Associate to provide technical support for laboratory instrumentation and calibration in its Durham, NC R&D facility. The role ensures reliable operation of critical analytical equipment, supporting scientists in delivering high‑quality eye‑care products.
Key responsibilities
- Install, calibrate, qualify, maintain and repair laboratory instruments such as HPLC, GC, thermometers, osmometers, KF titrators, FTIR, pH meters, and mass spectrophotometers.
- Collaborate with R&D scientists to troubleshoot instrument errors and initiate vendor repair tickets.
- Enter and manage calibration and maintenance data in dedicated software systems.
- Coordinate vendor visits, escort technicians, and oversee on‑site service activities.
- Track performance metrics for instruments, including downtime and on‑time completion rates.
- Follow GxP regulations, SOPs, and safety procedures, maintaining accurate documentation.
- Complete required training and contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory systems.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (high school + 10 years, Associate + 6 years, or M.S. + 0 years).
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in instrumentation support.
- Fluent reading, writing and communication in English.
- Commitment to GxP compliance, SOP adherence, and quality control.
Required skills
- Hands‑on experience with HPLC, GC, FTIR, pH meters, osmometers, KF titrators, and mass spectrophotometers.
- Knowledge of instrument repair, especially HPLC PDA and MS systems.
- Familiarity with CMMS and calibration/maintenance software.
- Ability to document work according to GxP standards.
