Senior Associate Dean & Director, Dahlgren Memorial Library

About the role

The Senior Associate Dean and Director of the Dahlgren Memorial Library provides strategic and operational leadership for Georgetown University Medical Center’s Graduate Health & Life Sciences Research Library. Reporting to the Vice President for Faculty and Academic Affairs, the role advances an integrated vision of services, education, collections, and technology to support the medical center’s education, research, and clinical missions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead library operational planning, systems implementation, and delivery of resources aligned with the Medical Center’s strategic plan.
• Integrate library and informational services into academic, clinical, and research activities across multiple schools and centers.
• Oversee fiscal stewardship, user‑centered service design, and data‑informed decision‑making.
• Recruit, develop, mentor, and manage a diverse workforce of professional librarians, staff, and student employees.
• Coordinate cooperative arrangements with other Georgetown University libraries.
• Represent Georgetown to national library organizations such as the National Library of Medicine and the Medical Library Association.
• Advocate for faculty, student, clinician, and researcher needs in institutional decision‑making.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in an academic or health‑sciences library setting.
• Ability to anticipate and respond to rapid changes in scholarly communication, technology, and academic medicine.
• Strong strategic planning and operational management skills.
• Experience managing budgets and driving fiscal responsibility.
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills for diverse stakeholder groups.
