Senior Accountant – Transport Organization

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join a transport organization in Covington, Louisiana. The role bridges accounting and analysis functions, ensuring financial accuracy, operational oversight, and regulatory compliance across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate accounting controls, identify risks, and safeguard company resources.
• Oversee core accounting activities, transaction workflows, and internal controls.
• Track daily cash balances and coordinate cash‑management activities.
• Prepare or support tax filings (income, sales, property, state returns) with accuracy and timeliness.
• Partner with leadership on month‑end close tasks, including reconciliations, financial statement review, forecasting, budget tracking, and fixed‑asset accounting.
• Monitor compliance with regulations and internal policies, raising concerns when corrective action is needed.
• Evaluate credit requests and recommend appropriate credit limits.
• Assist with audit readiness by compiling schedules and supporting documentation.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to assigned team members.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required); CPA or CPA candidate is a plus.
• At least 2 years of accounting experience, including month‑end close and general ledger work; public‑accounting experience valued.
• Working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Experience preparing analyses and reports to support management decisions.
• Familiarity with tax‑related accounting responsibilities and compliance requirements.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Preferred experience in the transport or related operational environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) or similar accounting software.
