Senior Academic Advisor

About the role

The Senior Academic Advisor serves as a policy and degree‑completion specialist within the CMNS Undergraduate Student Services team, managing high‑volume academic operations that support undergraduate degree completion at the University of Maryland.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive degree clearance reviews and evaluate undergraduate exceptions to policy.
• Interpret and apply university and college academic regulations, maintaining accurate records accessed by team members.
• Teach CMNS100: Becoming a Science Terp, provide drop‑in advising, and assist with large student events.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of counseling or advising experience (or equivalent substitution).
• Strong knowledge of undergraduate education, academic policies, and best practices in organization and administration.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume team environment while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Experience using Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive, Gmail, Calendar) and student information/degree audit systems.
• Skill in oral and written communication with attention to detail.
